MEDIZONE INTERNATIONAL IS POISED FOR SUCCESS

You don’t file for an an international patent unless you have a serious consideration of international sales.

The patent application made under the auspices of the Patent Co-operation Treaty (PCT) to secure international patent protection for its Asepticsure™ technology tells me this Company is moving forward in their sales plans.

AsepticSure™ must be getting closer to sales.  This is a product with the serious potential to move the Company seriously higher.
Keep your eye on the movement with regard to the AsepticSure System.
We know there is nothing on the market that is effectively addressing these issues.   If this Company makes it to the market first with an effective product this Company is a real winner.
AsepticSure is planned to be used to decontaminate and sterilize hospital surgical suites, emergency rooms, intensive care units, schools and other critical infrastructure. A government variant is being developed for bio-terrorism counter measures.

San Francisco, California July 7, 2010,  Medizone International, Inc. (OTCBB:  MZEI) has filed an international patent application under the auspices of the Patent Co-operation Treaty (PCT) to secure international patent protection for its Asepticsure™ technology. The international patent application consolidates the two previously filed patent applications titled “Healthcare Facility Disinfecting System” and “Disinfecting Process and Apparatus.” It brings up-to-date and expands the technical evidence, both laboratory scale and practical scale, supporting the effectiveness of the technology in clearing healthcare and other critical infrastructure of bacterial infections such as C. difficile, MRSA, E coli, Pseudomonas aeruginous and VRE down to complete sterilization standard.

After the international patent application has been searched and examined by the International Patent Office authorities, Medizone can register it in any or all countries of the world that have ratified the PCT (of which there are over 140 such countries, which includes all major industrialized countries), and secure grant of patents on the application in countries of its choice.

Great news on Hospital Beta Testing — just another step closer to SALES!

Shareholder Update from the Chairman

June 28, 2010

Dear Shareholders,

In response to numerous requests for a progress report regarding our AsepticSure™ beta testing program, I wish to advise all interested parties that negotiations are well underway with a well known Ontario hospital. Our prototype decontamination system is fully prepared for deployment and subject to a final review for health and safety, full approval to begin beta-testing is soon expected without further delay.

While this review process by the Hospital Health and Safety Committee has taken longer than originally anticipated, this is a standard requirement when new devices are being introduced into a hospital environment. The hospital’s CEO and VP Medical Services have already approved the proposal using words such as “astonishing” and “imperative” to describe the technology.

In other on-going developments, the entire scientific and patent team have been working diligently for weeks now on preparation of a patent filing under the International Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT).  The filing will include both US patent application 61/223,219 titled “Healthcare Facility Disinfecting System” and US patent application 61/295,851 titled “Disinfecting Process and Apparatus.”  As of January 14, 2010  142 member states had signed the PCT.  A complete list of member countries may be sourced at, www.wipo.int/pct/guide/en/gdvol1/annexes/annexa/ax_a.pdf

Following recent International meetings being held in Canada, at one of which our Dr Michael Shannon made a presentation on the science behind AsepticSure™, the company can assure shareholders that our technology and the science behind it have now been brought into awareness at very high levels of government.  Due to the sensitivity of some of the subject matter, shareholders should not expect any further information to be forthcoming for some time in this area.

I hope shareholders understand that progress is being made on many fronts.  As specific milestones are met, we will announce them whenever possible.

Yours truly,

Ed

Edwin G. Marshall
Chairman of the Board
Chief Executive Officer

AsepticSure(TM) Eliminates Food-Borne Pathogens

SAN FRANCISCO, June 1, 2010 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ — Medizone International, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: MZEI) announced another breakthrough today in its relentless pursuit to fully exploit the antimicrobial potential of AsepticSure(TM). Work just completed by its research team at Queen’s University has now demonstrated the AsepticSure(TM) system can reliably eliminate in excess of 7 logs (99.99999%) of Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella typhium with 30 minutes exposure to its unique and patented gas mixture.

“The CDC estimates that food-borne illness caused by these and other contaminants such as E coli affects 76 million people in the United States each year, leading to about 300,000 hospitalizations, and 5,000 deaths,” stated Dr. Michael Shannon, Medizone’s Director of Medical Affairs. “Although our main commercial thrust must remain focused on Hospital Acquired Infections, the list of very real applications for our system continues to grow. Deaths from food-borne illness in the United States remains a serious public health concern as it now accounts for more deaths on an annual basis than the cumulative military losses in Iraq since 2003 (4400).

“These are staggering statistics and in all conscience, cannot be ignored.” Medizone’s Chairman and CEO, Edwin Marshall added, “Our recent work with Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella typhium was a direct result of a commercial inquiry from a cheese manufacturer who had recently suffered a multi-million dollar judgment against them related to these pathogens. Clearly the scope of our AsepticSure(TM) technology is vast and the commercial prospects nearly unlimited. With the anticipated start of our hospital beta test program imminent and the publication of peer reviewed journal literature on the science anticipated late summer, it is clear full commercialization is within view.”

MRSA Eliminated in Youth Sports Equipment

SAN FRANCISCO, April 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — In response to the growing need for the decontamination of sports training facilities and locker rooms from the Super Bug Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus, also known as MRSA, Medizone International, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board:MZEI.ob – News) is pleased to announce that it has successfully sterilized both naturally and artificially contaminated sports equipment using its highly versatile AsepticSure™ sterilization system. “The implications of these results are enormous to Medizone as the potential market for AsepticSure™ has at least quadrupled in size,” stated Mr. Marshall, Medizone’s CEO. As reported in a recent article entitled “Assessment of Athletic Facility Surfaces for MRSA in the Secondary School Setting” (Journal of Environmental Health, Feb., 2010) the authors stated that, “Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) was once largely a hospital-acquired infection, but increasingly, community-associated MRSA (CA-MRSA) is causing outbreaks among otherwise healthy people in athletic settings. Secondary school athletic trainers, student athletes, and the general student population may be at elevated risk of MRSA infection.”

Part of the test program just completed by Medizone involved the evaluation of a hockey goalie’s glove used for three years by a 12-year-old Canadian boy. The inside surface of the glove was found to be heavily contaminated with MRSA along with a number of other less deadly pathogens. Medizone’s Director of Medical Affairs, Dr Michael Shannon stated, “Pads and team sweaters were also tested and very effectively sterilized without damaging the textiles or leather. It is noteworthy that the protocol used in gloves heavily contaminated with numerous real world pathogens needed to be adjusted significantly from the hospital protocol in order to obtain full sterilization, which demonstrates the ability of the AsepticSure™ system to meet the many varied demands in the real world through protocol changes without the need to alter the technology. This new work has lead to the development of a decontamination protocol specifically for this application which yields results consistent with those expected in hospital setting of 6 logs (99.9999%, sterilization standard) of bacterial kill. Thus, we have now demonstrated that the AsepticSure™ system is capable of cost effective hospital sterilization, locker room and sports equipment sterilization and in due course, we expect to assume a meaningful role in the bio-terrorism counter measures arena as well.”

Medizone International, Inc. (OTCBB: MZEI) (http://medizoneint.com)

This week Medizone International, yet again, demonstrated its ability to address the issues and the markets The AsepticSure™ system has the ability to impact. Its scope is National and International and its reach is both within the hospital and the community.

This time it is: Youth Sports Equipment

The AsepticSure™ system successfully sterilized both naturally and artificially contaminated sports equipment.

Pads and team sweaters were also tested and very effectively sterilized without damaging the textiles or leather. Thus, we have now demonstrated that the AsepticSure™ system is capable of cost effective hospital sterilization, locker room and sports equipment sterilization and in due course, we expect to assume a meaningful role in the bio-terrorism counter measures arena as well.

This application addresses the issue of CA-MRSA, which is the acronym used to describe cases of drug-resistant Staph caught in the community, not in hospitals. Strains caught in hospitals are generally different from those caught outside hospitals.

With colonization, a person carries the microbe _ for instance, on the skin, in the mouth or in the digestive system _ without developing disease. They can, however, pass it to another person, who may become infected.

CA-MRSA has increasingly emerged as a significant infection among people living in the community.  This represents a worldwide pattern, occurring in the U.S., throughout Europe and Australia.

Community-associated MRSA, which has sporadically broken out among professional and amateur sports teams such as the skin infections that bedevilled the USC Trojans and the Cleveland Browns.

When a person is infected with a bacterium or virus, the organisms multiply and can cause injury to a specific tissue or illness throughout the body.

CA-MRSA usually causes severe skin and soft-tissue infections _ but may also cause a fatal lung infection known as necrotizing pneumonia.

In the past five years, there has been a dramatic increase in MRSA occurring in children and younger adults who have no hospital contact or exposure.

While the United States has no national tracking system, however,  in Canada where a national tracking system does exist, in the last two years, almost 40 per cent of all MRSA cases are believed to have arisen in the community, with those at highest risk including younger people, the homeless and imprisoned, and intravenous-drug users.

Over a 13-year period, there was also a three-fold jump in the number of MRSA infections associated with more virulent strains from the community, say researchers from the Canadian Nosocomial Surveillance Program, who conducted the study based on data from 48 sentinel hospitals across the country.

This represents a huge market for Medizone International, Inc.

A Recent Study was the first in Canada to be able to link clinical and epidemiologic data _ for example, the types of patients who are most at risk _ with well-characterized laboratory isolates (bacterial strains), where a specific patient was matched to a specific isolate.

To conduct the study, published in the April issue of the journal Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology, researchers analyzed hospital data and identified 37,169 patients with either MRSA infection or colonization. The research also included lab tests to isolate and type the various MRSA strains affecting patients.

They found the overall incidence of MRSA increased to more than 11 per 10,000 patient days in 2007 from 0.65 per 10,000 patient days in 1995. Infections associated with MRSA strains from the community also rose significantly, to 23 per cent in 2007 from six per cent in 1995.

Staphylococcus aureus bacteria are commonly found on the skin and can cause a range of problems, from a minor infection in a cut to life-threatening disease. MRSA strains are those that have become immune to the effects of the main antibiotics used to combat the bacteria.

The news in terms of CA-MRSA is picking up steam in addition to the Hospital Acquired Infections.  The AsepticSure™ system has the ability to impact CA-MRSA in addition to Hospital Acquired Infections.

In February 2010 public health researchers reported that six Canadians — one in Ontario, five in Saskatchewan — were infected with methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA, drug-resistant staph. That may not sound unusual, but there was something odd about their illnesses: They were caused by a strain that during the last few years has spread through livestock and farm workers in Europe and North America. But the Canadians made sick by the bacterium had no contact with animals or farming; one of them, an elderly woman, had been housebound for several years.

In March 2010, epidemiologists at Johns Hopkins Hospital revealed that 61 per cent of the children in their pediatric intensive care unit — kids enduring advanced cancers, organ transplants and tricky infusions of stem cells — were carrying MRSA, but not the usual hospital strains. Instead, the kids had a strain that predominates outside health care and is more transmissible, more virulent and harder to detect than the hospital variety. While they were counting the cases, one child developed a serious bloodstream infection from the community bug, something that would never have happened just a few years ago.

The AsepticSure™ system is an answer to a serious need both nationally and internationally and within the hospital and in the community.  This means tremendous, tremendous shareholder value.

In this one week we have seen the three most respected news organizations in this country address the issue of Hospital Acquired Infections:  the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and National Public Radio.  They are demanding solutions, searching for solutions and THERE ARE NO SOLUTIONS OUT THERE ….

Medizone is bringing to market its solution at an opportune time.

If there were a solution out there — one of these news organizations would have reported it.

The Wall Street Journal addressed this issue on April 14, 2010:

The nation’s hospitals are losing the battle against life-threatening infections that patients can catch as a consequence of medical treatment, federal health officials said Tuesday. The Health and Human Services Department’s 2009 quality report to Congress found “very little progress” on eliminating hospital-acquired infections and called for “urgent attention” to the shortcomings.

National Public Radio April 16, 2010

In the last month National Public Radio has looked at Hospital Acquired Infections on two different occasions.  This subject is gaining tremendous media attention.  On April 16, 2010, NPR: Talk  of  the Nation/Science Friday presented:  Bacterial  Infections Defy Treatment. MRSA and C. diff. were the topic and the program discussed how hospital-acquired  infection have moved into the community in general including prisons and athletic facilities.

The radio program included:

Stuart Levy who is a professor of molecular biology, microbiology and medicine at Tufts University. He’s also the president of the Alliance for the Prudent Use of Antibiotics and the author of “The Antibiotics Paradox: How the Misuse of Antibiotics Destroys Their Curative Powers”

Maryn McKenna who is the author of “Superbug: The Fatal Menace of MRSA.” She’s also a contributing writer at the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota.

Brad Spellberg who is an assistant professor of medicine at the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Center. That’s at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. He’s also the author of “Rising Plague: The Global Threat from Deadly Bacteria and Our Dwindling Arsenal to Fight Them.”

They discussed bacteria that are resistant to every FDA-approved antibiotic.

What is incredibly significant about this program — where Medizone International is concerned is the reality that there are really no drugs on the horizon to treat this issue.

Dr. Levy noted that it is “almost looking impossible to find new antibiotics for these drugs.”

He noted gram negative bacteria are hard to treat and have many different resistances to antibiotics and that bacteria that are resistant to every FDA-approved antibiotic are being encountered.

The pharmaceutical industry is no longer producing a next generation of drugs to deal with the previously resistant bacteria.

Dr. Levy noted two reasons for this phenomena: one is economic in that long term daily prescribed drugs are more profitable. and the return on investment for a short term drug like an antibiotic does not stack up.

The second reason he gave was the FDA where standards by which trials should be conducted to show that antibiotics work are in a state of flux and designing clinical trials to meet regulatory standards for drug approval are not clear.

New York Times

The  New York Times reported on the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality Report and  noted HOSPITAL ACQUIRED INFECTIONS NEED URGENT ATTENTION.

The Report focused on Hospital Acquired Infections, noting that the, “problem of hospital-acquired infections remains as resistant to cure as the germs that contribute to an estimated 100,000 deaths a year, according to an annual government study issued Tuesday.”

Despite threats of governmental sanctions, hospitals continue to see increased rates of post-operative bloodstream infections which increased by eight percent and catheter-associated urinary tract infections which increased by four percent.

There was no change in the incidence of bloodstream infections caused by the placement of catheters in central veins. The only positive news came from a 12 percent reduction in the rate of post-operative pneumonia.

Dr. Carolyn M. Clancy, the agency’s director, pointed out that projects across the country had shown remarkable success in reducing infection rates by adhering to basic standards for hand hygiene, disinfection of patients, sterile handling of equipment and proper use of antibiotics. But at many hospitals those successes have yet to overcome an entrenched medical culture.

‘Kathleen Sebelius, the secretary of health and human services, called the trend troubling but said the new health care law would ”help turn these numbers around.” Under the law, hospitals with high rates of infections will be penalized by the government starting in the 2015 fiscal year.

The agency has been releasing its Congressionally mandated reports on health care quality and disparities since 2003.
